The lungs of the earth. DR Congo: Mapping project in the
village of Manga with a population of 1800. With the help
of satellite technology the tribal people map the forest
they live in and have lived of in centuries. This way
they hope to gain rights to the forest resources, protect
themselves again industrial deforestation and perhaps
acquire a share of the global CO2 credits. Local
communities in the Congolese rain forest loose their
livelihood when the forest gets cut down. 40 million out
of a population of 65 million depend on the forest for
their livelihood. They hunt, fish collect fruit and grow
vegetables in the forest.
